Primary purpose of the role:

Our client is currently seeking a strategic Litigation Specialist with workers compensation experience to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution teams within Personal Injury, Return to Work & Support.

The purpose of this role is to receive, report on, action and effectively resolve disputes raised by customers, and respond to litigation. This includes responding to internal review requests, work injury damages and common law claims, dust disease and statutory workers compensation claims.

The successful candidate will assist the Litigation Leader and/or the Dispute Resolution Leader to determine litigation strategies on all litigation to ensure they are managed in accordance with business objectives. The Specialist will drive and engage in opportunities to continually improve and enhance services to our customers.

Key accountabilities:

* Manage litigation and drive successful outcomes and model litigant behaviour.

* Devise and implement strategies to actively manage claims to ensure control and improvement of work injury damages and common law liability for the scheme.

* Represent and demonstrate values and behaviours.

* Determine when to engage, instruct and manage legal provider services performance in litigation.

* Engage with, consult and manage communication with our customers.

* Work with other internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive customer outcomes and ensuring effective engagement with the business model.

* Meet legislated timeframes.

* Achieve performance and KPI targets set by the business.

* Keep abreast and ahead of litigation and decision-making trends to ensure that potential impacts are anticipated and managed.

* Support cross team and cross organisation initiatives as appropriate.

* Respond to internal reviews made pursuant to s 287A of the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998.

* Respond to employer internal liability review requests.

* Ensure internal review decisions are based on an objective assessment of the available factual and medical evidence.

Essential requirements:

* Admission as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW with a current unrestricted practising certificate.

* Expert knowledge in common law, work injury damages, dust disease claims and statutory workers compensation.

* Extensive experience in alternate dispute resolution/litigation in insurance related matters

* Comprehensive understanding of workers insurance legislation and soundly based decisions

* Ability to adapt to change in the insurance industry and economic environment

* Ability to tailor communications and approach to the specific customer

* Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills

* Excellent oral and written communication skill

* Passionate about providing quality service and outcomes to our customers with a focus on empathy
